Ronald Koeman believes Ashley Williams will offer much-needed strength to Everton’s defence.
Williams has joined the Blues on a three-year deal from Swansea City and arrived little over 24 hours after John Stones moved to Manchester City.
An initial approach for the Wales captain was rejected last week but Everton returned with an improved offer to land the 31-year-old.
“We wanted to bring in a strong player in the central defence position, a player who knows the Premier League and Ashley fits the bill for us very well,” said Koeman.
“He is an experienced defender and the kind of player we need in the team.
“He is a leader. He showed this at Swansea and he has shown it for his country and he is looking forward to his new challenge here at Everton.”
