A vacant Liverpool city centre heritage building is set to be brought back to life.
Castle Moat House has sat unoccupied for the best part of a decade but will be re-opening its doors this summer as part of revival plans by the Pub Invest Group.
The Grade II-listed structure on Fenwick Street, which sits on the historic site of the city’s ancient castle moat, will be transformed into McSwiggin’s, a premium Irish pub.
Promising a traditional, sophisticated and warm pub atmosphere with tables, the venue will also contain booths, fireplaces, TV screens and bars across two floors.
The opening will generate new employment opportunities across venue management and bar staff while showcasing local musical talent through a regular programme of live entertainment.
By preserving the character of Castle Moat House while introducing a high-end, high-energy concept, McSwiggin’s looks set to become a vital anchor for the area’s daytime and evening economy.
General Manager Dean McClafferty said: “We’re really excited to be bringing this incredible listed building back into use.
“It’s a massive part of the history of Liverpool city centre, and we’ve been working really hard to create a venue that respects that history, while giving people a great place to enjoy a pint, watch live sport, listen to live music or catch up with friends.”
