Merlin Rohl has given his verdict on Everton’s penalty claim against Manchester City.
Monday’s frantic 3-3 draw at Hill Dickinson Stadium saw David Moyes’ side lose fresh ground in their bid to secure a European qualification place for next season.
Jeremy Doku’s leveller was the third time in successive games that the Blues were denied points in added time but they were also denied a spot kick earlier in the half.
Rohl found himself grappled by Bernardo Silva for a corner in the 87th minute while the hosts were still 3-2 ahead against the faltering Premier League title challengers.
Referee Michael Oliver waved away appeals but Rohl, who was handed a rare start due to Idrissa Gueye’s injury, admits the incident was not an open and shut case.
He said: “It’s always hard when you’re on the pitch and someone is grabbing you.
“I didn’t look at it, but a lot of the guys were telling me it was a lot he was doing.
“I think also it was too much holding in the penalty spot. He (Silva) was doing this all game. I did another action in the first half and he was doing it.
“He was not doing so much in the second half. Grabbing in this area could be a penalty.”
Rohl’s stay on Merseyside is set to be made permanent his summer on account of his initial season-long loan move from Freiburg containing an obligation to buy.
Comfirmation of the deal, understood to be worth around £20 million, is imminent after Everton mathemtically secured their Premier League survival last month.
“I’m happy to be at this club,” added Rohl.
“I’m happy for every minute I get on this pitch. It’s a really special club.
“We will see next season. But I’m really happy if I stay here and can make an impact like today.”
