Everton still ‘hampered’ by PSR, admits Moyes

David Moyes admits Everton’s January transfer plans are still ‘hampered’ by PSR.

A need for reinforcements has intensified after Orel Mangala’s season-ending injury and Dominic Calvert-Lewin also facing several weeks out of action.

The Blues have no outstanding issues over PSR after avoiding fresh charges earlier this month while the Premier League dropped their outstanding case.

But Moyes revealed that the club’s financial headroom margins remain tight as he seeks to draft in fresh bodies ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

“Confident [of signings] at the moment has become difficult because it’s certainly not for the want of trying, let me tell you,” said the Everton manager.

“I know behind the scenes and for all the Evertonians: we’re really out there trying to find things that we can bring in but undoubtedly we’re still hampered with PSR.

“I’m really jealous of watching a lot of teams who can maybe attempt to go for a lot of players at expensive prices at the moment, we’re not quite there.

“But we don’t want to get ourselves in a position where we’ve been in before withs points deductions, etc, so we have to be really mindful of what we do.

“All I can say is I hope the supporters all understand that and go with us.

“We hope to bring in some players but maybe it’s not the ones which if we really had the money we’d be trying to do.”

He added: “As a manager, you always want to sign the best players you possibly can.

“I want to sign people who I think the supporters will be excited by and would love to come and see.

“At the moment, we’re all just a little bit hindered with with what’s been been left over. But we’re nearly there.

“We’ve got good new owners in who I feel will change that, but maybe not until the summer.”

Moyes also hinted that Michael Keane could be redeployed as an auxiliary centre-forward with Everton’s injury predicament leaving only Beto available.

Calvert-Lewin and loanee Armando Broja are both sidelined while Youssef Chermiti is still several weeks away from making his return to action.

“Well, let’s be fair he’s not a centre-forward, but everybody seems to tell me that he’s done always done quite well,” said Moyes.

“I remember him from years ago and he played very well for Burnley before he came here as well and when he was at United, I had him for a while.

“So I do think that we’re probably going to try anything. We’re going to need we’re going to need everybody to try and be adaptable, flexible and see what possibilities we’ve got.

“It’s not the first thought in my mind, but I might need it.”
