Liverpool’s Jaguar Land Rover plant is set to undergo a major upgrade.
Up to £500 million will be invested in the car manufacturer’s Halewood operations to produce hybrid cars and prepare for electric vehicle production.
Bosses of the automotive employer say they have already invested £250M in the site and are committing to another quarter-million over the coming years.
The investment will see Halewood producing electric versions of medium-sized SUVs alongside the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models.
First opened in 1963 as Ford’s body and assembly plant, the site employs 4,000 staff and has been producing Jaguar Land Rover vehicles since 2001.
Trevor Leeks, JLR Halewood’s operations director, said: “For over sixty years, Halewood has been producing vehicles for global markets.
“I’m proud that through this investment; the hundreds of hours of transformational work; and dedication of my colleagues, JLR Halewood is setup for future generations to continue to create and deliver exceptional luxury vehicles for our clients.”
