Liverpool will host a triple by-election on the day of the General Election.
The seats of three Labour wards in the city council are set to be decided on July 4, when the country also goes to the polls to elect a new government.
Helen Avis (Fazakerley North), Nick Crofts (Broadgreen) and Louise Ashton (Clubmoor East) signalled their surprise intentions to step down last week.
In a joint Labour statement, Cllr Avis said the decision to stand down in her ward since 2022 was driven by relocating her family away from Liverpool.
Cllr Crofts, who has been a councillor for the past 12 years and previously held the Knotty Ash seat, cited changes in his working circumstances.
He said: “It has been a great privilege to represent the people of Knotty Ash and Broadgreen for more than a decade and I am immensely grateful for their continued faith in me over that period.
“Unfortunately, recent changes in my work mean that I am increasingly busy and I can no longer serve my residents with the full commitment that they deserve.
“But I am confident their next Labour Councillor will continue to deliver for them.”
Meanwhile Cllr Ashton is stepping away from her role in the local authority after just 12 months due to a bereavement.
A notice posted at Liverpool Town Hall confirmed that a ballot will be held on Election Day should the seats be contested before Friday, June 7.
