Police have uncovered a Liverpool chop shop after tracing a stolen car.
Officers were alerted to a vehicle reported missing being transported on a low loader truck along Rice Lane at around 11am on Wednesday morning.
The truck was stopped and the driver, a 40-year-old man from the Liverpool area, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
An associated garage was later searched, leading to several stolen vehicles being found inside which are currently being examined and seized by police.
A 60-year-old from Liverpool who was found at the garage was also arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
Both men have been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.
Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: “Thanks to the vigilance and alertness of officers, we have recovered a large number of vehicles we believe to have been stolen, and arrested two men.
“We take all reports of car thefts seriously and are committed to reducing the number of offences in Merseyside.
“We will continue to proactively patrol as well as respond to reports of suspicious activity on our roads in order to prevent as many car thefts as possible.
“We urge anyone who has any intelligence or knows someone involved in this type of crime to contact Merseyside Police social media desk @MerPolCC so we can investigate.”
