Bomb hoax brings city centre to a standstill

A bomb hoax brought parts of Liverpool city centre to a standstill on Saturday.

Staff and guests at The Britannia Building on Fenwick Street were evacuated at around 7pm following reports of an explosive device on the premises.

Police searched the building and found that there was no suspicious devices.

A 41-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of making a bomb hoax and has been taken into custody for questioning at a Merseyside station.

Officers remain in the area to provide reassurance to the general public.

Fenwick Street on the junction of Brunswick Street, James Street and Moor Street has also reopened after being closed while the incident was unfolding.
