Wirral-born MP and actress Glenda Jackson has died at the age of 87.
The Birkenhead native won two Oscars in the Best Actress category for her roles in the 1970 film Women In Love and A Touch of Class three years later.
She later served as a Labour politician for 23 years and became junior transport minister in Tony Blair’s cabinet between 1997 and 1999.
Jackson stood down from Westminster in the 2015 to pursue a return to acting, where she won a BAFTA in 2010 for her role in Elizabeth Is Missing.
Prior to her passing, Jackson had completed filming on The Great Escaper alongside Sir Michael Caine, reuniting 48 years after their first production.
Her agent Lionel Larner confirmed on Thursday that she passed away ‘peacefully’ at her London home after a brief illness surrounded by family.
