Four people injured in Anfield lorry crash

Four people have been injured by a lorry crashing into a busy Anfield street.

Police closed Oakfield Road at around 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon after the heavy-duty vehicle had mounted the pavement and collided with a bus stop.

The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital, where he is assisting officers with enquiries, as one of four people to be injured during the incident.

A woman who had been waiting at the bus stop at the time of the incident is also undergoing treatment for what are to believed to be lower limb injuries.

Merseyside Police confirmed that two further people, a man and a woman stationed on the pavement, received minor injuries.

The incident happened as thousands of football fans began to descend on the area for a charity match between a team of Liverpool and Celtic legends.
