A woman in her 60s has been mauled to death by dogs at a house in Kirkdale.
North West Ambulance Services were called to St Brigids Crescent at around 4.25pm on Monday following reports of a dog attack inside the property
Sadly, the 63-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Five American bulldogs that were inside the house at the time have been handed over to the relevant authorities and humanely destroyed.
Police arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: “This is clearly a very distressing incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the lady who died.
“Our enquiries remain ongoing as we seek to establish what has happened and I would urge anyone who could assist our enquiries to get in touch.”
