Wahaca has become a firm favourite in Liverpool since its opening at the end of 2015.
It’s bright, funky décor makes it a super trendy place to take in good Mexican food.
Co-founded by Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers along with Mark Selby and so fresh, high quality food is guaranteed. The Wahaca mantra is fresh, authentic and vibrant Mexican market food and the new additions to the menu certainly add up to that,
The first thing we tried was from the “Summer Special” section of the menu and was the Chorizo and Cheese Taco. I am not normally a huge fan of taco’s but the chorizo was more than enough to tempt me and I am very glad that it did. These little parcels, served in twos, are absolutely delicious.
The chorizo was sautéed to perfection and the sweet roasted red onions were divine. I am really no fan on avocado anything, but this has delicious salsa managed to transform me.
I washed this down with a Passion fruit & hibiscus cooler on a sun soaked terrace and I couldn’t have asked to be anywhere more pleasant.
The next thing we tried was the Devon Crab Tostada. It was like the most luxurious “chip and dip” you could think of. Served with Crispy Tortillas that you can dip in, it’s a perfect summer sunshine dish. It tasted incredibly fresh and the tomato complimented the crab well.
I also tried the new Toasted cornbread which comes served with chipotle honey butter. It was sweet yet the butter’s spice contrasted well with this. This came served with whipped goats cheese – which I personally could have done without but my dining partner enjoyed.
We finished up with churros & salted caramel ice cream, although not together.
The salted caramel ice cream is one of my favourite things ever. The slithers of dark chocolate throughout it adds to the decadence.
I was a first timer for the churros this time. They are served in threes with a choice of a dark chocolate dipping sauce or a caramel sauce. I had a bit of both and a little dip of both was absolutely stunning.
The service in Wahaca is outstanding. Our waiter, Chris, couldn’t have done enough for us. He was pleasant and helped with recommendations which is always a good thing when there is so much choice on the menu.
The beauty of Wahaca is in it’s bright décor and abundance of outside space. It’s a great place for a summer lunch with plenty of tasty, fresh, healthy light bites to please the taste buds.
