Three men have been arrested under the Terrorism Act after an explosion at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
Police confirmed that the men, aged 21, 26 and 29 respectively, were detained at multiple addresses in Kensington late on Sunday afternoon.
Several properties in Rutland Avenue, Toxteth were also evacuated overnight as a precaution in conjunction with the investigation.
It follows the explosion of a taxi which pulled up to the main entrance of the hospital shortly before 11am, resulting in the death of a male passenger.
Another man, the driver of the vehicle, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries that are currently not thought to be life threatening.
Greater Manchester Police tweeted: “Officers in Merseyside have arrested three men – aged 29, 26 & 21 – in the Kensington area of Liverpool under the Terrorism Act.
“Counter Terrorism Police North West is continuing to work closely with colleagues at Merseyside Police as our investigation continues at pace.”
