Liverpool confirm La Liga double-header

Liverpool will play a double-header of friendlies against La Liga opposition.

Jurgen Klopp’s side confirmed on Monday that they will entertain Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna in back-to-back games at the beginning of August.

The Basque club, who played in successive Copa del Rey final earlier this year, will take on the Reds at Anfield on Sunday, August 8 in a 4pm kick-off.

Los Leones previously faced Liverpool in a friendly in a 2017 friendly at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, which saw Klopp’s side run out 3-1 winners.

They also contested two-legged competitive encounters in the 1968 Fairs Cup and the 1983/84 European Cup’s second round, losing on both occasions.

Athletic’s visit will be followed little over 24 hours later by Osasuna in a game which will be a tribute to Michael Robinson, who represented both clubs.

Robinson was part of Liverpool’s 1984 treble-winning team before later playing for Los Rojillos and becoming a respected media pundit in Spain.

Sadly the ex-striker died last year aged 61 following a lengthy cancer battle.

Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday (July 21) with Liverpool expecting to have a 75 per cent capacity crowd present for both pre-season fixtures.

Further details are set to be announced by the club on Tuesday.
