Liverpool duo in line for improved contracts

Liverpool are set to offer Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson new deals.

Jurgen Klopp’s side wasted little time in bolstering their ranks this summer with the arrival of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig confirmed on Friday.

But the Reds are also making plans to safeguard the positions of several first-team mainstays with Robertson and Alexander-Arnold chief among them.

Despite the full-back pair’s respective contracts at Anfield set to run until June 2024, owners Fenway Sports Group are keen to tie up their long-term futures.

Several other established figures are expected to be handed fresh extensions, including Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Alisson and Fabinho.

Alexander-Arnold’s England teammate Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are also in line for new deals as they enter their final two years.

However Liverpool are reportedly not planning to source a direct replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, who will leave when his contract expires on June 30.

Wijnaldum is on the verge of agreeing terms with Barcelona ahead of him becoming a free agent, having spent five years in the ranks at Anfield.

The Press Association claim Liverpool currently have no targets in mind for the outgoing Holland international and will instead focus on their internal recruitment.
