Guardiola: Liverpool can still catch City

Pep Guardiola believes Liverpool can still catch Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Saturday’s win over Tottenham saw the current leaders move 13 points clear of the reigning champions following the Reds’ 3-1 reversal against Leicester.

Jurgen Klopp emotionally conceded his side’s defence of their crown is over in the aftermath of their loss to the Foxes, their third straight defeat in 10 days.

City could extend the gulf between the league’s two most recent winners to 16 points with a victory over Everton in their game in-hand on Wednesday.

But Guardiola is adamant that Liverpool are still capable of clawing back their double-figure deficit while also admitting his own side would need to slip up.

“It is the same Liverpool that I met in the last years but in the boxes they are not as clinical as they were before,” said the City manager.

“The quality of the team is still there. I don’t think they drop the quality of press or play, they always create more than the opponent.

“I don’t like to suffer against them but as a spectator, I always enjoy watching Liverpool.”

He added: “From what I saw, the way they played against Leicester, of course we have to lose games but of course they can do it.

“Football is mood, feeling, not tactics sometimes. The quality of the team is still there.”
