Jurgen Klopp has paid a touching tribute to his mother following her death.
Elisabeth Klopp passed away at the age of 81 last month in the Liverpool manager’s native Germany, with her funeral taking place on Tuesday.
Coronavirus travel restrictions imposed on UK arrivals meant Klopp was unable to attend the ceremony to see his mother being laid to rest.
The Reds boss last visited Elisabeth to celebrate her 80th birthday and has pledged to later hold a fitting memorial to her when the circumstances permit.
“She meant everything to me,” he told newspaper Schwarzwalder Bote.
“She was a real mum in the best sense of the word. As a devout Christian, I know she is in a better place now.
“As soon as the circumstances allow, we will hold a wonderful commemoration.”
Klopp’s father Norbert died in 2000 at the age of 66 following a short illness. His mother is survived by the German coach and sisters Stefanie and Isolde.
