Alisson sidelined for Brighton’s Anfield visit

Alisson has been ruled out of Liverpool’s game with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Brazil international will miss Wednesday’s Premier League encounter with Graham Potter’s side after being confirmed to be suffering from an illness.

Although details of the goalkeeper’s condition are yet to be confirmed, he is expected to be available again for this weekend’s clash with Manchester City.

Caoimhin Keller, who deputised for Alisson earlier this season, will take his place for the Seagulls’ visit to Anfield, where Sadio Mane is set to also miss out.

Mane sat out last Sunday’s cruising win over West Ham United with a slight injury concern which has added to the Reds’ growing casualty list this term.

“Ali is ill – not Covid, thank God,” Jurgen Klopp told BT Sport.

“Not seriously [ill], but there was no chance.

“He woke up this morning and was not well and we couldn’t bring him.”

Defensive trio Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all sidelined for the season while midfielders Naby Keita and Fabinho are still out of action.

James Milner has been passed fit to start in midfield while Klopp received encouraging signs that Diogo Jota is working his way back to fitness.

The Portugal international began training outdoors again since suffering a knee injury in December’s Champions League dead rubber with Midtjylland.

Ben Davies could make his debut after being named as a substitute against Brighton but fellow January arrival Ozan Kabak is yet to receive international clearance.
