Liverpool fear captain Jordan Henderson could miss the start of next season.
Henderson was forced out of the Reds’ 3-1 win over Brighton on Wednesday with a knee problem sustained in a second-half collision with Yves Bissouma.
The England international underwent a scan on the injury which he is set to receive the results on Friday amid concerns of a prolonged lay-off.
Jurgen Klopp admitted after his side’s victory at the Amex Stadium that the prognosis is likely to be severe, saying: “I know it will not be nothing.”
Henderson’s absence could see him sidelined for not only the final matches of the new Premier League champions’ campaign but also the months ahead.
The midfielder, 30, is set to end Liverpool’s 30-year title wait by lifting the trophy on July 22 following their final home game of the season against Chelsea.
Should Anfield officials’ worst fears be confirmed, Henderson will be sidelined for the start of the 2020/21 season and England’s Nations League campaign.
