Liverpool are reportedly fearful over manager Jurgen Klopp leaving them to take charge of the German national team.
The former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund coach has already attained legendary status at Anfield, having brought the Champions League trophy back to England on the back of a stunning European campaign. And while he’s understood to be pretty happy where he is, he does harbour aspirations of coaching his country in the future.
Last summer, the Liverpool boss admitted that he will consider taking up the role if asked whilst available but would not rush to the nation’s aid just because they had a terrible World Cup.
According to the Mirror, the club’s heads are fearful that they could lose their coach to Die Mannschaft especially as he’s been hesitant to accept a new deal that would see additional years tacked onto the three he’s got left.
“Klopp has so far knocked back attempts by the Anfield hierarchy to make him one of the highest-paid managers in the Premier League. That has increased the fear amongst the Fenway Sports Group that he could be vulnerable to an approach from Germany when Joachim Low’s reign comes to an end,” the publication’s report reads.
“Although Klopp is completely happy on Merseyside his ambition is to one day lead his country. He still has three years of his current contract to run but Henry wants to rip that up and give him a longer deal. But Klopp refuses to budge and has talked about taking a sabbatical once his Liverpool contract runs down.”
The Reds are currently atop the Premier League table after winning all seven of their Premier League matches and registering a perfect 21 points from the games they’ve played. It took a scrappy goal from Giorginio Wijnaldum to give them a victory at Sheffield United on Saturday, but they’ve opened up a five-point lead over second-placed Manchester City and don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.
City, though, remain the favourites for the Premier League title and William Hill has odds of 4/5 going on them retaining it after dominating the topflight these past two seasons. The reds are 6/5 to win it with Bet365; however, those odds could shorten if they stay true to form as the games go by.
Tottenham Hotspur are way behind at 66/1 with Betfred but Skybet are offering as much as 100/1 on Mauricio Pochettino’s side causing an upset. Premier League fans looking for enhanced odds are encouraged to head over to freebets.com to take advantage of price boost offers in the UK.
The Reds lost their opening Champions League match, falling 2-0 to Serie A side Napoli, but they’re favoured to bounce back when they face Salzburg this coming Wednesday. Ladbrokes is offering 2/7 odds on Klopp’s side winning while the German outfit are 9/1 to win and 5/1 to draw the match.
City are also favourites to win the Champions League outright and fans could grab a 10/3 offer from Bet365. Barcelona are right up there at 11/2, while the defending Reds are 7/1.
