Mirallas ends Everton stay with free transfer

Kevin Mirallas has ended a seven-year stay at Everton by joining Royal Antwerp.

Mirallas became one of David Moyes’ final signings as Blues manager when he in the summer of 2012 on a £6 million switch from Greek outfit Olympiacos.

The Belgium international revealed that he had turned down Arsenal’s overtures to move to Goodison Park, where he went on to record 38 goals and 186 appearances.

His best run of form came in 2013/14, when Everton secured a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, by having a direct hand in 17 goals and scoring eight.

Mirallas hit the headlines for different reasons in 2015 when he missed a penalty in a draw with West Brom, having assumed responsibility from first-choice taker Leighton Baines.

But the end of the 31-year-old’s time on Merseyside was spent largely in exile after falling out of favour under a succession of Everton managers.

Ronald Koeman claimed that the winger had been omitted from a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in August 2017 due to what the Dutchman perceived as ‘attitude issues’.

Returning to Olympiacos for a brief stint in the 2017/18 campaign proved difficult as he was sent back ahead of schedule by his former employers.

A season-loan stint at Fiorentina proved similarly fruitless in recording only two goals from 30 outings in all competitions for the Serie A side last season.

Mirallas, whose Everton contract was set to expire at next summer, joins Antwerp on a free transfer.
