A football fan has been hit with a banning order after pushing a local man into a Barcelona fountain.
Merseyside Police were granted the three-year order against Anthony Mullen following the incident on April 30, before Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final.
He was filmed toppling a street seller into the fountain at Placa Reial, where hundreds of Reds supporters had gathered on the eve of the game.
Barely a fortnight later Mullen was recorded again, this time pulling down the trousers of a traffic steward near Anfield before the Reds’ game with Wolves.
Appearing at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court in Bootle, the Aigburth resident refused to contest the police’s Football Banning Order application.
He will not be able to be within a mile of Anfield between four hours before kick-off and one hour after the full-time whistle as part of the restrictions.
Mullen is also not allowed to travel to any town or city of matches involving Liverpool or be within two miles of Goodison Park on Merseyside derby day.
He cannot enter any stadium or attend football matches in the United Kingdom.
Should the terms of the banning order be breached, the 57-year-old risks being jailed for up to six months or incurring a hefty financial penalty.
Superintendent Paul White said: “These were shocking incidents during which two innocent men were targeted and humiliated by Mullen.
“The vast majority of Liverpool fans travelled to Barcelona and behaved appropriately and respectfully, however the behaviour shown by Mullen is unacceptable and will not be tolerated, whether it be at home or away games.
“We work closely with Liverpool FC and all our football teams and pride ourselves on being an inclusive city that is passionate about football, and would like to remind anyone thinking about engaging in this type of behaviour that we will pursue such incidents and bring offenders to justice.
“We do not want the mindless acts of a few to adversely affect the enjoyment of other fans and members of the public.”
