Alexander-Arnold eyes ‘special’ Anfield night

Trent Alexander-Arnold hopes Liverpool can enjoy another ‘special’ Anfield night against Barcelona.

Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final with the Spanish champions will see the Reds aiming to overturn a three-goal deficit without Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Jurgen Klopp’s side could also head into the second leg clash with a boost in their Premier League title bid should Leicester manage to hold Manchester City.

Alexander-Arnold has been a key figure for Liverpool in taking the champions down to the wire this season, with only two points now separating the sides.

And the West Derby-born defender believes that the support they enjoy at Anfield could help them reach an improbable second Champions League final.

He said: “We’ve obviously had decent results this season where we’ve scored more than three goals.

“Being at home helps us, we’ll have the fans behind us and there’s still that sense of belief.

“We know it’s going to be really hard, it’s not going to be a walk in the park and everyone has got to be realistic.

“But we’ve definitely still got that belief within ourselves, in the changing room, that anything is possible, especially at Anfield.

“Hopefully we will be able to produce one of those special nights here.”

Despite the uphill task, Alexander-Arnold cites Liverpool’s 2016 Europa League quarter-final comeback against Borussia Dortmind as a source of inspiration.

“I was here as a fan. It was one of those special nights, one that you won’t forget and will always remember where you were when those kind of things happen,” he added.

“It’s important for us to give that belief, and I am sure the fans believe we have it in us.

“Especially with a team like this, that we’ve got it in us to score that many goals and hopefully not concede. Realistically, it’s an uphill battle for us.

“But it’s important to have that belief as well. It’s a slim possibility, but while that possibility is still there we’ll believe with everything we’ve got that we can do it.”
