These Are the Most Beautiful Places to Walk Your Dog in Merseyside

So, you have gotten a job in Liverpool and are relocating from a more rural area. You are bringing your kids along with you, some of which have four legs! Yes, those dogs are valuable members of your family and you want to be assured that you can give them the best care possible which includes health insurance for dogs, good quality food and a place where they can get the exercise they need to maintain proper weight and health. You have found a residence that allows kids and dogs and are ready to call the removers. There is one thing left to do, however, and that would be to locate beautiful places to walk your dog in Merseyside. Here are a few you can consider.

The Wirral Way

Although it’s a bit out of the city, you can get to Wirral in just about 18 minutes down the A59 and M53. If you are looking for beauty and plenty of room for your dog to romp, this would probably be one of the best locations. Not only is it surrounded by lovely green foliage, but there are paved walkways for you to feel secure walking while your dog runs free. Just make sure to carry doggie bags along to pick up any waste to keep it clean for others out to enjoy a lovely spring or summer day. Being that the Wirral Way & County Park are tended by park officials, you’ll want to make sure you and your fur baby obey the park regulations!

New Brighton Beach

Do you have a terrier who adores the water? Why not play fetch at New Brighton Beach? Toss a tennis ball into the water and let your buddy wade out to get it. It’s loads of fun for you, and your dog will be in doggie heaven! Also located along the coast of Wirral, this is going to be a drive you become quite familiar with. The one thing you may want to consider, however, is to make sure your dog is current on all its vaccines because you will be exercising your dog in moist areas that can carry communicable germs.

Royden Park

Getting back to those lovely places to walk your dog in Merseyside, we find ourselves once again in Wirral. This time we are in Royden Park that has tonnes of wide open spaces for dogs to exercise. It is a particular favourite of larger breed dog owners. Not only will your fur baby get ample exercise but so, too, will you! You will encounter lots of other dog owners out for the day and unlike the beach, it is a place you can come most days of the year. In the heat of the summer, those tall trees provide shade to keep you cool whilst they provide a bit of insulation from winter winds so that you won’t freeze while your dog runs. Remember, it’s doggie who is running about, not you, so climate comfort is an important consideration.

Formby Beach

A bit of a longer drive from Liverpool, Formby Beach is also a great place in Merseyside County to let your dogs romp and roam. It’s approximately a half hour’s drive from the city up the A565 but well worth every moment spent behind the wheel. On hot days, both you and your dog can cool off in the water but if you choose, you can also walk through the woods just adjacent to the coastline. Here again, if you have a ‘water dog,’ this is the place to frolic. Is your fur baby a Retriever? You will find that Labs will spend as much time in the water as out. Other breeds that will love Formby Beach are Newfoundlands, Portuguese Water Dogs, and believe it or not, Poodles! Of course little teacups might not do well in the waves but Standard Poodles will be in their glory.

A Word About Dog insurance

If you own a dog, you should always have dog insurance and be sure that the  level of cover is suitable for you. Have you checked out pet insurance on Everypaw?

Veterinary costs can be quite expensive, some pet insurance policies will either pay the vet directly or reimburse you for money you’ve spent on those visits. Also, as a ‘gentle’ reminder, dog insurance could cover those necessary microchips you may find you need when your fur baby wanders away and out of sight. It’s easier to reunite lost dogs with their owners if they’ve been chipped. Bear that in mind.

Anyone moving to Liverpool with dogs should always be aware that the very best places to spend quality time with their fur babies might be outside the city proper. It may mean driving up to a half hour from the centre of Liverpool, but if you live to the north or south, you’ll find a quick and easy jaunt down the coast where you and your beloved four-legged ‘child’ can spend quality time away from the noise. Isn’t that great to know?
