Everton braced for Gomes signature competition

Marco Silva expects Everton to face competition in their bid to sign Andre Gomes.

The Portugal international is currently enjoying a career renaissance during his season-long loan with the Blues after two seasons of toil at Barcelona.

Everton are hopeful of making Gomes’ stay a permanent one but are expected to battle it out with several clubs, including Tottenham, for his signature.

However Silva believes that a renewed interest in the midfielder from elsewhere is par for the course in light of his recent performances at Goodison Park.

He said: “I think zero [is] how it will affect us. Nothing changes in our way of what’s in our mind as well.

“When you have good players in your squad, that means other clubs are looking at them as well. That’s normal in football.

“At the right moment, we’ll have time to talk about the situation and let’s see what we can do to keep him or not.

“My job is to work with the players we have, to give them the conditions to grow as a player.

“Of course, we’ll see what we can do to improve in the market, but our focus is on the next game.”
