A third man has been arrested in Italy in connection with the attack on Sean Cox.
The father-of-three, 53, was left fighting for his life after a brutal assault outside Anfield before Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final with Roma in April.
Italian police chiefs confirmed on Monday that a joint operation with their Merseyside counterparts led to the arrest of a 30-year-old in Rome.
He appeared in court on Saturday, October 6 under a European Arrest Warrant on suspicion of assault and has been remanded ahead of an extradition hearing.
Two other Italians have already been charged in connection with the attack on Liverpool fan Mr Cox, who is now continuing his rehabilitation at a hospital in his native Ireland.
Filippo Lombardi, 21, is set to appear at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday over charges of violent disorder and wounding/inflict grievous bodily harm.
In August, Daniele Sciusco, 29, was jailed for two-and-a-half years after admitting violent disorder.
A fundraising page has been set up to help provide long-term care and support to Mr Cox and his family as they continue his recovery from the attack.
