Silva: Everton will learn from West Ham setback

Marco Silva insists Everton will learn from their 3-1 defeat to West Ham.

An Andriy Yarmolenko double and Marko Arnautovic’s second-half goal were enough to condemn the Blues to their first defeat of the new season.

Individual mistakes were again the order of the day, with the visitors scoring courtesy of poor Everton defending rather than their own ingenuity.

But Silva believes that the Goodison Park reversal will be a learning experience that his side will learn from as they move forwards.

He said: “We didn’t perform at a good enough level to win this match. That is clear. At this level you cannot make the mistakes that we made.

“There are many, many things to improve but even if today was a positive result I would tell you the same. Of course when the result wasn’t the best we have to improve more.

“It is a big lesson what has happened to us here. I already told the players that as well. We have to understand in some moments what we have to do and we have to be sure.

“Even without pressure, we made mistakes. Without pressure, you don’t expect mistakes. There is something about our focus that we have to do in the important moments of the game.

“We know what we have to do, we will analyse this game like we did before to improve in these situations.“
