Silva delighted by winning Goodison welcome

Marco Silva has hailed Everton’s supporters following his first game in charge at Goodison Park.

The Portuguese boss made a winning start to life on home soil with a 2-1 win over Southampton.

He was warmly received from the outset, widely cheered as he was presented to the crowd moments before kick off.

A 2-1 win on his home debut, courtesy of goals from Theo Walcott and Richarlison, coupled with an impressive attacking display, meant Evertonians were in fine voice throughout.

And Silva says he was not surprised, admitting he was expecting a positive atmosphere in his maiden game.

“The support was fantastic but it is something I expected,” he said.

“I know here the crowd creates a fantastic atmosphere during matches.

“They know that it’s important for me that our players feel them behind them, even in some moments of the game when you are not performing well.

“It is important they support every time.”
