New Everton director of football talks confirmed

Everton are in talks to make Marcel Brands their new Director of Football.

Brands recently emerged as a potential successor to Steve Walsh at Goodison Park after a flawed transfer recruitment policy totalling close to £250 million.

Under the 56-year-old’s watch, PSV Eindhoven developed several high-profile players, including Georginio Wijanldum, Memphis Depay and Kevin Strootman.

Toon Gerbrands, the Eredivisie leaders’ general manager, revealed on Sunday that Everton have now made their third approach for Brands’ services.

“They have recently reported to him, but also twice before; a year ago and a half year ago,” he told De Tafel van Kees.

“So it has not gone through twice and even now the contract is not complete at all. Everton also has to report to PSV, that is not the case.

“They have only reported to Marcel, and he has informed us nicely about this. If you know Marcel, it is not done yet.

“His feeling must be one hundred percent good. It must be 100 percent accurate. If it is not quite right yet and his feeling is not good, he just says no.

“The fact that he has a conversation with them does indicate that he is considering it. “
