Utility – 8 Paradise Place

Utility will always be Liverpool’s pride of vibrancy, even though there’s also now a London store open. The store is lined with unusual gifts, funky jewellery, cool gadgets and interesting books. The Olive Tree – 61 Renshaw Street

This fascinating shop founded in the 90’s provides Liverpool with a sanctuary for all things spiritual. The wonderful smelling shop in Renshaw Street sells meditation mats, yoga mats, Tibetan singing bowls and incense. Probe Records – Bluecoat

This longstanding record store first opened in 1971 during the punk era. If you’re a vinyl fanatic, then you will be pleased with the huge selection that Probe offers – from several decades ago to current music. The store has a lot of quirky character – such as LP covers wallpapering the walls and heaps of CDs in places. Geoff Davies, owner of the shop was an independent businessman who set up another part of the business which had retailers such as Virgin Records, Our Price and HMV coming to Davies for their independent label stock. Vocalist Paul Rutherford from Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Pete Burns from Dead or Alice and record producer Julian Cope all worked in the record shop before their fame.

Landbaby – Bluecoat

If you love vintage and shabby chic, then you’ll love Landbaby in Liverpool. Browse vintage fabrics, broaches, beads, handmade jewellery, toys, cushions, wooden objects and accessories. There’s also home décor made by local Liverpudlian artists, promoting a lot of local craftsmen and artists. If you’re a bit crafty and you love making things, then why not book yourself in to one of their courses or workshops? The cost is reasonable and includes materials, drinks and cakes.

Beatwear – Victoria Street

Near to where The Beatles used to play at the Cavern Club is a men’s 60’s clothing store. Beatwear is perhaps famously named after The Beatles, a family-run independent shop that sells men’s clothing and booths. If you like Italian high-quality tailored suits, then Beatwear have it. They’ve even made replicas of the famous Chesterfield collarless suits, trademarked by The Beatles. Take a trip down memory lane to the 1990’s and pick up some Chelsea boots or stand back and admire the huge range of colourful suits they have.
