Oumar Niasse’s Everton exile is finally over, Ronald Koeman has revealed.
Niasse spent the previous 12 months confined to the wilderness at Goodison Park, after failing to convince the Blues manager upon his arrival last summer.
The Senegal international spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull City but could not secure a permanent move in the recent transfer window.
He had been exiled to Everton’s under-23 setup, having last played for the first-team in May 2016.
However Koeman has confirmed that Niasse is now in line for an unlikely recall.
He said: “Niasse is back in the first team. He did a training session today.
“It gives us another option for the striking position.
“It’s not necessary to speak any more about what happened last season I found that now is the right time to bring him back to the first team.
“He’s an Everton player and sometimes in life you need to give some opportunities.”
Koeman also admitted that Everton’s inability to source a replacement for Romelu Lukaku was a factor in drafting in the former Russian player of the year.
When asked, he replied “That’s one of the reasons, yes.”
