Oumar Niasse’s deadline day move to Crystal Palace collapsed at the eleventh hour.
The unwanted Everton striker had been in line for a move to south London, where he had arrived late on Thursday night to seal a £7 million switch.
Both Niasse and Mamadou Sakho, who completed a £26m move from Liverpool, were filmed arriving at Palace’s headquarters to tie up their respective deals.
However the Senegal international’s proposed transfer is said to have fallen through after his representatives failed to agree specific fees as part of the deal.
Eagles chairman Steve Parish confirmed that Niasse remained an Everton player after the transfer window closed.
He said: “I know we had one deal fall through from Everton.
“(It didn’t happen) for various reasons I don’t want to go in to really, it was a difficult one for lots of different reasons.
“It was a shame as he is a player we really liked, he’s very Palace and could have given us something special.
“But it wasn’t meant to be, we’ll soldier on and we got the main target we wanted (Mamadou Sakho).”
Niasse spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull City after he was confined to the fringes at Goodison Park by Ronald Koeman.
