Koeman eyes new striker for Everton FC ‘next step’

Ronald Koeman is targeting another striker to help Everton ‘make the next step’.

Two front men have already joined the Blues’ summer revolution in Sandro Ramirez and a returning Wayne Rooney alongside a host of attacking players.

Rooney continued an impressive start to life back at Goodison Park as he netted his 200th Premier League goal in a 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

The England captain also formed a fluid partnership with youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin in attack at the Ethad Stadium on Monday night.

But Koeman has revealed that he is hoping to draft in another marksman before the transfer deadline on August 31 to boost his squad’s evolution.

Asked whether he had finished in the market, the Everton manager said: “I hope not.

“We are looking for a left-footed central defender, maybe a back-up for Leighton [Baines].

“That’s an option, and also a striker – even with the talent of Dominic and Ramirez.

“If we want to make the next step we need a striker as well.”
