Sigurdsson passes medical ahead of Everton FC move

Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Gylfi Sigurdsson is set to seal his Everton move.

A fee in the region of £40 million was agreed between the Blues and their Swansea counterparts on Tuesday to seal the Iceland international’s signature.

Sigurdsson arrived at Everton’s Finch Farm training base on Wednesday morning before undergoing a medical ahead of his proposed club-record switch.

Koeman confirmed that the 27-year-old had edged closer to being unveiled as an Everton player ahead of his side’s Europa League qualifier with Hajduk Split.

He said: “The latest is that he had his medical this morning and what I heard from the doctor there was no problem about that.

“I don’t know if still he needs to sign but I saw him in the blue [shirt].

“We worked a long time to get this deal in and he was one of the key players to bring in.

“We knew, of course, we will lose [Romelu] Lukaku for this season and we need players who will bring in productivity to the team.

“We lost by Lukaku [leaving], 25 goals and we need more players than one to get that number of goals and he’s that type of player with a lot of productvity.

“He knows the Premier League and he had really good seasons in Swansea, and he is, in my opinion [and] in his position, one of the best in the Premier League.”

Sigurdsson could make his Everton bow in next Monday’s Premier League encounter with Manchester City but has been ruled out of the Hajduk clash.

“I will have a talk to Gylfi this afternoon also about this,” admitted Koeman.

“He will not be involved for tomorrow – he did not train today.

“Yes, maybe for Monday [against City], I don’t know. I need to talk to Gylfi, I need to know what his physical state is.

“He did the training at the beginning of the pre-season and later on with the first team but okay, let’s wait how the fitness is.”
