Everton are one of several clubs in the hunt for Blaise Matuidi.
Matuidi has been told that he is free to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer after entering the final 12 months of his current deal in the French capital.
Juventus emerged as a likely destination for the midfielder but the Blues are among three Premier League sides preparing to battle the Serie A champions.
According to L’Equipe, Ronald Koeman is set to rival Manchester United and Manchester City to land Matuidi, who would cost just under £18 million.
Everton’s ability to offer the France international regular first-team football is said to offer them an edge over both Manchester clubs.
Matuidi remained an ever-present for PSG last season with 47 outings in all competitions and lifting the Coupe de France.
But with discussions over a new contract failing, the 30-year-old has been allowed to leave the Parc des Princes after six years in which he won four Ligue 1 titles.
Koeman is expected to further strengthen his squad with James McCarthy likely to depart following a diminished role under the Dutchman at Goodison Park.
McCarthy’s involvement with the Republic of Ireland was a regular bone of contention for the Everton manager due to it causing regular injury flare-ups.
