Everton FC beat Arsenal to second summer signing

Everton are set to beat a host of Premier League clubs to sign Joshua Zirkzee.

Ronald Koeman has identified the teenage striker as part of the Blues’ plans to strengthen their youth set-up as well as their senior ranks this summer.

Several English top flight clubs have been tracking Zirkzee after he impressed for Feyenoord’s youth side, scoring 33 goals in 27 games for the Dutch outfit.

The 16-year-old also featured against Everton’s young guns in Prague during a goalless draw as part of the Generali CEE Cup on Thursday.

Manchester United and Arsenal were both said to be tracking Zirkzee but the Daily Mail claim that the player is keen on a switch to Goodison Park.

Everton are also said to be close on reaching a £6 million deal with Newcastle United for another teenage prospect in promising defender Lewis Gibson.

Koeman has already bolstered the Toffees’ under-23 setup this summer with a number of significant additions to the reigning Premier League 2 champions.

They include Josh Bowler, Nathangelo Markelo, Boris Mathis as well as the loan return of Wolfsburg marksman Anton Donkor for the 2017/18 campaign.
