Everton FC confirm Sandro Ramirez capture

Everton have confirmed the signing of Malaga striker Sandro Ramirez.

Sandro joins the Blues on a four-year deal from La Liga, where he struck 16 times last season and caught the eye of Ronald Koeman in the process.

The Everton manager moved for the Spain under-21 international after watching him score during Malaga’s comprehensive win over Celta Vigo in mid-May.

And Sandro admits that he is under no illusions about the enormity of his move to Merseyside.

He said: “It’s a big jump in my career coming to the Premier League and for a club like Everton which is really on the up.

“They have got big plans and want to succeed and keep developing.

“I’m hoping I can get to know my teammates as soon as possible, and want to adapt to the football and the way of life in the city.

“Everton have made some big signings and we’re hoping we can put in a great season and hopefully then we can achieve that aim of getting in the Champions League. It will be a big season for us.

“I was lucky enough to play with some of the best players in the world and managed to win the odd trophy but the important thing now is that I’m very happy to be signing for Everton.

“We’ve got a fantastic squad and I’m excited about being able to compete at Everton and win plenty of silverware.”

Everton won the race to sign Sandro for a cut-price fee due to a £5.2 million clause in his contract and saw off competition from Atletico Madrid for his signature.

Diego Simeone had hoped to add the one-time Barcelona marksman to his ranks, only for his club’s transfer embargo to be upheld earlier this month until January.

Koeman said: “There was a lot of interest in Sandro because, of course, he’s a goalscorer, he’s young and he has a big future in the game.

“We have been trying to bring in good players so we can have greater productivity in the team and he will bring that.

“He will bring a lot of good qualities and he’s a really good goalscorer, too.”

Sandro held talks with Everton’s director of football Steve Walsh a fortnight ago before passing a medical to take the club’s summer spending to almost £60m.

Jordan Pickford became the costliest player in Goodison Park history after arriving as part of a deal worth £30m for the Sunderland goalkeeper.

That was followed just hours later on the same day, by the arrival of Davy Klaassen, as Ajax’s highly-rated captain joined for £23.6m.
