Wayne Rooney has hinted that he could rejoin Everton this summer.
The 31-year-old appeared to have played his last game for Manchester United with a late substitute appearance in their Europa League final win over Ajax.
Rooney struggled for a regular starring role under Jose Mourinho which saw him become a peripheral figure both at Old Trafford and at international level.
He was overlooked by England as Gareth Southgate prepares to take on France and Scotland next month despite remaining the national side’s captain.
A return to the Blues remains heavily mooted with both Ronald Koeman and director of football Steve Walsh previously opening themselves to the prospect.
Speaking after the game in Stockholm, Rooney gave the strongest possible indication that his time with the Red Devils is set to come to an end this summer.
Several clubs have already expressed interest but the Croxteth-born player insists the only Premier League club he would ever consider joining is Everton.
He said: “I’ve played for two Premier League clubs and they’re the only two Premier League clubs I’ll play for.
“There are lots of offers on the table, both in England, abroad and, really, that’s what I have to decide on.
“I’ve got decisions to make now over the next few weeks, have a word with my family, and then I’ll decide.”
Since leaving Everton in 2004, Rooney mulled over offers from both Manchester City and Chelsea, in 2010 and 2013 respectively, but later opted to stay at United on both occasions.
