Everton’s under-23 side have been won this season’s Premier League 2 title.
David Unsworth’s young Blues side were named champions without kicking a ball after closest challengers Manchester City lost to Liverpool in a five-goal thriller.
The Reds’ victory at Prenton Park ensured that the U23s could not be caught with a six-point lead heading into their final game of the campaign on Monday, May 8.
“I’m thrilled for the young players, they absolutely deserve it,” said Unsworth.
“We’ve been chased for a good part of the season. Fair play to Manchester City, they are a quality team but then so are we.
“The character of our group of players was never in doubt. They hate getting beat, our staff hate it, too, and I’m thrilled for everyone, especially the lads.
“It goes to show that this Club is the ideal place to be if you are a young player who wants to develop and progress.
“Leicester winning the Premier League last season proved anything is possible and our team has been hungry for success, hungry to win.
“All credit to the players are staff. I’m so, so delighted for them.”
Everton lost just three games all season en route to the title, which will be presented at Goodison Park for the Merseyside derby with Liverpool’s U23s.
Fans are being offered free entry to the game, which will also raise funds for the club’s anti-homelessness initiative ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’.
