Man in court over Violet Grace Youens’ death

A man will appear in court after being charged with a role in the hit-and-run death of Violet Grace Youens.

Dean Ian Brennan will appear before Liverpool Magistrates Court on Wednesday in connection with the incident in St Helens which led to the four-year-old’s passing.

Violet and her grandmother Angela French, who remains in a serious but stable condition, were struck by a stolen Ford Fiesta as it mounted the pavement on Prescot Road last Friday.

Brennan has been charged with assisting an offender, theft of a motor vehicle and the aggravating offence of allowing himself to be carried within a stolen vehicle.

The 27-year-old from Prescot has been remanded in custody and is one of three people being sought by police in connection with the incident.

Detectives arrested a 23-year-old man, also from Prescot, on suspicion of being a passenger in a stolen vehicle but have released him pending further enquiries.

Another 23-year-old has fled the country after being thought to be involved in the incident.
