Everton FC handed fresh Merseyside derby injury blow

Ramiro Funes Mori has handed Everton a fresh injury setback ahead of Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

The Blues defender was stretchered off with an apparent knee injury during Argentina’s World Cup qualifying defeat to Bolivia on Wednesday night.

Funes Mori is yet to discover the full extent of the problem but is now unlikely to feature for Ronald Koeman’s side in this weekend’s showdown with Liverpool.

His previous outing at Anfield saw him sent off for an X-rated challenge on Divock Origi as Everton suffered a 4-0 humiliation less than 12 months ago.

Koeman is already set to be without Seamus Coleman for the 228th derby clash after he suffered a season-ending double leg break on Republic of Ireland duty.

Compatriot James McCarthy is also doubtful to feature against the Reds due to his withdrawal in the warm-up of the goalless draw with Wales last Friday.
