Mayor hints at Everton FC stadium announcement

The Mayor of Liverpool has hinted that an announcement on Everton’s new stadium could be made next week.

Discussions remain ongoing between the Blues’ hierarchy and developers Peel over a potential deal for the Bramley-Moore dock, on the Liverpool waterfront.

Joe Anderson has been in regular negotiation with Everton chiefs Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright over the club’s planned relocation from Goodison Park.

As part of a joint delegation between Everton and Liverpool City Council, the trio made a fact-finding visit to the Bramley-Moore site last October in addition to Stonebridge Cross, a brownfield site in Croxteth.

And the council leader, a self-confessed Everton supporter, made a cryptic reference during conversations with fellow fans on Twitter.

When asked by one Evertonian about whether there was ‘anything happening, in the next week, Anderson replied: “Just seen my diary for next week.

“My office have cancelled my weekly fitness session and my hairdressers appointment for Thursday.

“Just saying.”

Last weekend Mayor Anderson alluded to a potential statement on Everton’s bid to move to a new stadium while attending the Gwladys Street Hall of Fame.

“I keep getting asked if there’s an announcement next week,” he said at the time.

“Well it won’t be next week but don’t ask me about the week after.”
