Ronald Koeman believes Everton will need upward of 60 points to qualify for Europe this season – despite a seventh-place finish set to be good enough.
Tottenham’s passage into the FA Cup semi-final with a 6-0 demolition of Millwall now sees four of the Premier League’s top six in the running to win the trophy.
With Manchester United already guaranteed a place in the Europa League after winning the EFL Cup, the Blues are currently all but guaranteed qualification also.
Saturday’s comprehensive win over West Brom has afforded Everton a seven-point gap over their closest competitors in the battle for a continental spot.
But Koeman insists that his side must aim to break through the 60-point barrier in their remaining 10 games of the campaign to ensure a European return.
He said: “I think 47 points is, in my opinion, not a really good result to finish the season.
“We need more points, it’s good already to have 47 but if you really like to fight for something more than seventh-place I think you need more than 60 points.
“The target for the team is to play in Europe next season. We know it’s all about the winner of the FA Cup. We have now a gap behind us in the table.
“We spoke about the situation; two home games. If we get six points out of that, it’s nice to play Liverpool and Manchester United away because you can do more.”
