Joel Robles is hopeful of staying at Everton beyond the end of his current deal.
Robles has been the Blues’ first-choice goalkeeper since replacing an injured Maarten Stekelenburg during December’s Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool.
The Spaniard’s return to the fold coincided with an upturn in fortunes for Everton with Ronald Koeman’s side going on a nine-game unbeaten Premier League run.
Koeman declared that Robles was the club’s undisputed No.1 stopper despite Stekelenburg’s return to full fitness at the end of January.
But with the ex-Atletico Madrid ‘keeper’s contract expiring at the end of next season, negotiations have yet to begin with Goodison Park officials over an extension.
However Robles, 26, is hopeful of extending his current four-year stay with Everton.
“I feel great at the club. I want to stay here as many years as possible,” he told IB Times.
“Everton is like a home for me after four seasons. The people of Liverpool are very friendly.
“I am very happy with my teammates and in the club.
“My contract will expire next season but I’m not worried. We have not spoken about anything yet but my first choice will be [to stay] at Everton.
“I have it very clear and I will not leave until the club tell me that they don’t want me here.
“If they tell me that I will pack the suitcases and leave but I have very clear that priority is to stay at Everton.”
