Agent finalising new Everton FC deal, says Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku insists that his agent is finalising talks over a new Everton deal.

Lukaku’s representative Mino Raiola claimed on Monday that the striker’s proposed long-term contract with the Blues was ‘99.99999999%’ complete.

The Belgium international is currently the Premier League’s joint leading goal scorer after hitting a 17th strike of the campaign in the win over Sunderland.

But Lukaku has maintained that any dealings over his Goodison Park future lie with Raiola as he continues to focus solely on his on-field Everton career.

He said: “My agent is doing the talks with the club. I just want to play football.

“I think for me, the most important thing is that the team does well and that the fans, wherever they go, whether it’s away or at Goodison are happy that we’re winning.

“You can see on the pitch I’m really happy with how we’re performing right now and we have to continue like that.”

History remains potentially within Lukaku’s grasp this season as Ronald Koeman’s side prepares for this weekend’s trip to fellow top four challengers Tottenham.

No Everton player has broken through the 20-goal barrier since Gary Lineker in 1985/86, allowing the 22-year-old to become the first in the Premier League era.

But Lukaku prefers to achieve European qualification ahead of personal accolades.

“It’s a little ambition but for me personally I’d like to get the team into Europe,” he added.

“You have to score to do that. To be honest I want to win at Tottenham.

“My mistake in the past was looking forward too much and I’m focusing on the present now and day by day objectives.”
