Everton are ‘really lucky’ to have Leighton Baines, according to Ronald Koeman.
Baines remains an ever-present as he nears a decade of service at Goodison Park and the left-back could make his 300th appearance for the club this weekend.
Ahead of Saturday’s likely milestone for the left-back, Koeman has paid tribute to Baines ahead of visit of Sunderland, admitting he is a rare breed in football.
“He’s really important. I like him as a player. I like him as a person,” said Koeman.
“He’s really disciplined in the team and involved in everything that happens in Everton. Maybe he’s on his best level this season.
“It’s always a difficult position in the team, the left full-back position. Not all of the teams really have that top quality in that position.
“Some right-footed players. We are really lucky to have Leighton on a good level and a good fitness.
“He’s showing his level and is maybe one of the best players in the last few games.”
