Everton FC’s Ronald Koeman ‘dreaming’ of Barcelona job

Frank de Boer says that it is Ronald Koeman’s ‘dream’ to manage Barcelona.

The Everton manager batted away speculation linking him with a return to his former club last week amid the ongoing uncertainty over Luis Enrique’s future.

Enrique’s current contract at the Nou Camp expires at the end of this season and the Barca boss has yet to indicate whether he will extend it beyond this summer.

Last week De Boer’s agent claimed that Koeman had been identified as a possible successor to Enrique and the ex-player himself has now weighed into the debate.

He said: “Normally I think he is [at clubs] for the long term.

“But maybe in his contract if he gets a call from Barcelona then he can go because that is always his dream.

“I think he also mentioned it a lot of times that when Barcelona come calling it would be fantastic.

“He would deserve it because he is doing well and he also did well with Southampton.

“But hopefully for Everton he doesn’t get a call and he will stick there for a couple of years, like he did at Southampton.”
