Everton legend Joe Royle believes Romelu Lukaku could go on to win the Premier League golden boot this season.
The Belgian has been in impressive form once again this year and has 17 goals in all competitions to his name.
Sixteen of those have come in the Premier League, with the striker bagging four in the 6-2 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Those 16 league goals mean he now stands top of the Premier League goalscoring charts, ahead of the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
He is currently two shy of the 18 league goals he managed in the entirety of last season and is on course to better that record by the end of the campaign.
Royle is impressed by what he has seen and believes the 23-year-old could easily end the season by claiming the Golden Boot.
“Twenty-five is certainly a realistic target. If he could get into the early 20s then that would be a great haul for him, and 25 would be absolutely fantastic!” he said.
“If Rom did that then that would give him a great chance of winning the golden boot. And you only have to look at his face every time he scores a goal to know what that would mean to him.”
“The hardest thing to do in football is to stick the ball in the net and that’s why strikers command such big fees. It’s not just the amount of goals Rom scores, it’s the quality of them, too.
“It’s remarkable to think he’s still only 23 years old and, with what you would say are his more mature years ahead of him, he’s only going to get better. We’ve got a real gem on our hands and we are lucky to have him in our team.”
