Everton manager Ronald Koeman has emerged as Barcelona’s latest target.
Koeman spent eight years at the Nou Camp as both a player and coach, during which he also scored the winning goal in the 1992 European Cup final.
But reports in Spain suggest that the current Blues boss could be in line to replace Luis Enrique as the helm of the reigning La Liga champions this summer.
Enrique’s current contract will expire at the end of this season and Don Balon claim that Koeman is one of three names in the frame to succeed him.
Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel are the other two names who have long been understood to also be in contention.
In November, Koeman dismissed suggestions that he was using his Goodison Park tenure as a stepping stone to return to his former club.
“You can’t say, ‘I go to Everton in one or two years, I go to Barcelona’. No,” he said at the time.
“Why? Maybe Everton will be bigger than it now is.
“Maybe Luis Enrique is doing a fantastic job for the next three years and they don’t need a coach. No. The best thing is to believe in the project; how Everton is.
“It is not the final moment in this project. Of course not. I signed for three years. I don’t think I signed for three years and will be out after one year.”
