Everton FC midfielder set to lead January exodus

James McCarthy is in line to head up Everton’s transfer clear-out in January.

McCarthy has struggled to command a regular starting role this season under new Blues manager Ronald Koeman due to a series of injury setbacks.

When fit, the Republic of Ireland international has been limited due to the continued form of holding midfield duo Gareth Barry and Idrissa Gueye.

Reports claim that McCarthy is now considering a future away from Goodison Park, where he was originally signed by Koeman’s predecessor Roberto Martinez.

Crystal Palace emerged as potential suitors in the previous transfer window and the Daily Mirror suggest that Alan Pardew is set to renew his interest next month.

West Brom and Aston Villa have also been credited with interest in the 26-year-old while Celtic are also monitoring his situation on Merseyside.

Koeman is expected to move on a number of Everton players, including the out-of-favour Tom Cleverley while captain Phil Jagielka may also be set to depart.
